Chinese. He was not speaking in any sense officially, but

it would certainly make a very good impression and he

thought be of mutual benefit, incidentelly strengthening

the position of the University in the eyes of the Chinese

generally, if something could be done to meet this. In the

past the University had been somewhat narrow, if he might

say so, in its attitude towards this question of Chinese.

For exemple there had been the oase of Dr Wang Chung-bui's

brother, unfortunately now dead, who had been a most dis-

tinguished gynecologist.

get things on to a better footing in some such way as he

had just suggested ? He knew it was a delicate matter and he wished to tread warily, but if I could do anything about it he and his colleagues would be grateful. I said that I was perfectly ready to mention his suggestion to the Governor, Sir William Peol, in a private and non-committal way, and I was sure that if on investigation dis Excellency felt there was anything that could reasonably be done, he would be in favour of doing it If Dr Wang would leave it in my hands on that footing I would see that what he had said was not overlooked.
